As Brendan Rodgers’ men were seeking to extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points, it seems they forgot to prepare for Chelsea’s modus operandi. Chelsea safely parked the bus and hit Liverpool on the counter. Demba Ba capitalised on Steven Gerrard’s slip, to score the opening goal, before Willian wrapped up a 2-0 victory over Liverpool deep into stoppage time.
Coutinho and Sahko had chances to give the home side the lead, but blazed over before Ba raced through to finish expertly past Mignolet, after Gerrard missed a pass and slipped. The Blues then defended with everything in the second half, desperately holding onto their lead. The Reds threw all they had at Chelsea but they were just too resilient. Will this loss be the nail in the coffin for Liverpool’s hopes for a first Premiership medal?
