The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has shed light into the reason for the current fuel scarcity in the country. The chairman, Mr. Aminu Abdulkadir confirmed that it is a result of unpaid subsidy claims by the federal government which dates back to nine months. He alleged that members have not been paid claims from the 3rd and 4th quarter of last year.

He however said the products in the system were currently being supplied by the NNPC solely which amounts to about 50% of the country's total needs. He said its members can't continue importing products till their claims were resolved as they were in business for profit. So who are we to believe in the midst of these claims and counter claims, the marketers or the government?
