A request to withhold all allocations due to Rivers state has been made to the President. Seventeen councillors in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state made the request. They said since the state government under Rotimi Amaechi has refused to fund the council since April 22, 2013, then the Federal Government should do same.

The councillors are alleged in some quarters to be doing the bidding of the Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike. The councillors, led by Henry Odum lamented that the paucity of funds has brought untold hardship to the people of the council. He said they haven't been able to execute a single project in the past one year. Are they fighting for the people or themselves?
