Arsene Wenger has come out to say that qualifying for the Champions League this term is not because Arsenal needs the money. Rather, it is for the prestige. Having done it for the past 17 years consecutively, Wenger was quick to point out that the pressure then was about the UEFA cheque.
The cheque was needed to pay off the Emirates Stadium debt but now that the club is in a strong position financially, the money means less.
