MTN, AIRTEL TO SELL OFF NETWORK TOWERS

Insider reports from telecommunications giants MTN and Airtel reveal that both companies were planning to sell off their as many of their mobile network towers. MTN plans to sell about $1 billion worth of towers which is about 7500 in Nigeria alone.

Airtel plans to sell about 15,000 of her towers which will fetch her a princely $2 billion. The towers are to be sold because they cost too much to maintain on the continent than elsewhere worldwide. Rumoured buyers include Eaton Towers, Helios Towers and IHS who have all bought such in different parts of Africa. Is this good or bad news for service delivery?
