The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the 2015 general elections timetable, and it indicates that presidential campaigns will begin no later than November 16th. As the Amended Electoral Act dictates that campaigns may start no sooner than 90 days before Election Day, candidates must stick to this timetable.

The candidates will also have to end their campaigns on February 12, 2015, as this is before the end of the 90 days stipulated by the in the Electoral Act. Presidential hopefuls are very likely to adhere to this timetable, as a violation could lead to a fine of N500, 000.

The Chairman of the INEC, Attahiru Jega, believes that the 2015 election will be much more credible than the one held in 2011. That still remains to be determined, but we are sure to hear much more about the upcoming campaigns in 2014 as the presidential and National Assembly polls aren’t being held until February 28, 2015.
