Chief Tony Onyima, who is the new Commissioner in charge of the Ministry of Information, in Anambra State, has unveiled his key policy direction. Onyima was the former managing director of the SUN Publishing Company before Willie Obiano appointed him as a commissioner. He then directed the entire staff of the Information Ministry to key in to whatever Governor Obiano has set out to achieve.

Onyima stated that in the days ahead, he will work hard to ensure that there will always be the communication component in every development effort that is executed by the government. Joe-Martins Uzodike, his predecessor alerted the new commissioner that the Anambra Broadcasting Service might lose its license to operate if it does not change its present analogue status and embrace digital broadcasting by the 31st of December this year.

To further tighten the noose on the activities of criminals in the Anambra state, the Governor, Mr Willie Obiano has promised to provide a new gun-boat for the Nigerian Navy who are actively involved in the campaign to weed criminals out of the state. He also assured that the state government would repair all grounded naval vessels and put them back into stressing that most of the arms were smuggled into the state through the River Niger.

He spoke at the parade of a notorious suspected arms dealer Mr. Alphonsus Ngwu who is fingered for supplying arms to crime syndicates in the state. Ngwu who was paraded at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Headquarters, Awkuzu, along with a gang of four armed robbery suspects openly confessed to newsmen that he had been a gun-runner for over fifteen years. The Obiano administration pledged to achieve zero tolerance of crime in Anambra State. Can Anambra's crime rates significantly reduce?

The Secretary of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr Benjamin Uzoka has resigned his appointment with the commission. This he did to allow him resume his new duties as a member of Willie Obaino's government. As soon as Obaino got sworn in as Governor, some appointments were made quickly in a manner that's strange to Nigerian politics. This might mean Obaino came in with his sleeves rolled up and ready to work.

One of the beneficiaries was Mr Uzoka who was appointed Permanent Secretary of Anambra State Liaison Office in Lagos. A farewell was organised for him by the commission where he assured that his new duties won't overwhelm him. The Chairman of Anambra SIEC called him a loyal and dilligent person. It is hard not to think of this as political compensation right?

The Anambra gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the November 2013 election, Dr. Chris Ngige has brought about 50 witnesses to testify in his petition for the elections to be cancelled. Represented by his counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), he said the witnesses were pruned from 101 to 50 so as to speed up the trial.

He then presented further exhibits which we prayed the judge to admit as evidence but they were struck out after the defence counsel objected. The tribunal is sitting in Awka and is led by Justice Ishaq Bello. The Governor, Mr. Willie Obiano is being represented by Mr. Onyechi Ikpeazu and Mr. Osita Nnadi both SAN. Will the courts favour Ngige again?
