Super Eagles one-cap defender Leon Balogun, recently got rid of his crutches, after the injury he picked up during his debut for the African champions last month and is making good recovery. He is set to begin light training, as he harbours hopes of being included in Nigeria’s preparations for the 2014 World Cup. This was contained in a press release by the national team’s media officer.

The Fortuna Dusseldorf player said “As I speak with you, I just came back from the gym. I have been going through the routine and should be doing bike next week, but all the medics have said is that I should take it a step at a time. Hopefully I should be doing ‘Cross Trainer’ next week, which should prepare me for physical running in two weeks time, but I have removed all encumbrances on my toe and walk freely.” Good news for him and the Eagles.

The Super Eagles are in Group F alongside Iran, Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina, but will face the Asians, who many see as the weakest team in the group, in their first match. This game is seen by the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Musa Amadu  as a crucial one, which will decide how far Nigeria will go in the competition at this summer’s World Cup.

" Keshi’s tactical ability will count as an advantage for us in Brazil. If we go there and beat Iran, we will qualify and go as far as we can go. I believe we have a very competent technical crew so let us work together. I don’t have any doubt about it,” he said. Does the fate of the Super Eagles hang on their first World Cup game truly?
